No One But Herself

Who Will Be No One But Herself
by Brigitte Nicole
I’m the type of woman who believes in love at first sight; who will listen to a love song and get emotional. The kind of woman who doesn’t get over things easily; who will hurt a lot when someone doesn’t love her back; who will cry herself to sleep because sometimes she feels she’s not good enough. But who’s also strong; who can cry her eyes out then forbid them to come back the next morning; who will pick herself up every time she falls; who will be no one but herself. ”

This quote really touched me because it describes a woman like myself.  I do get emotional and I do get hurt.  I’m also strong and a survivor, whether I want to be or not.  I’m happy with who I am and don’t try to be anyone else.  In the end, I will always pick myself up and keep going,  usually after I have licked my wounds for a bit lol.

A strong person can also be very defensive. An open person leaves themselves vulnerable to pain. A balanced person experiences both good and bad, however with smaller deviations. Life is difficult, but life offers amazing opportunities. I find the happiest people stay true to themselves, yet remain open to constructive critism. This leads to better self awareness as well as personal growth. Good luck on your journey.

I’m glad you feel that way. That is a difficult thing for men to learn, especially those like me who were brought up by fathers from “the old generation.” Bottling up your feelings only represses them and your ability to work through them.

Exactly! My Dad a 6’4 German n Irishman never cried my whole life, even at my wedding! But our cat had to b put to sleep n we were so sad at vet’s. He started bawling n never stopped when my Mom got sick. Thank god cause he never would’ve made it without being able to cry n grieve properly. All cause of a little cat that loved him.

Very sorry to hear about your Mom’s illness and the loss of the kitty. Animals become part of the family. They are able to show love unconditionally.

I only saw my father cry one time and it was after his father died. He went and locked himself in the bedroom. That was about 15 years ago. In the time since then, he has opened up a little more and I am glad for it. We never said things like “I love you” or the like growing up. It wasn’t because we didn’t believe it – just men didn’t show those types of emotion.

Luckily, I’ve made the decision to not be like that. I try to show the people I love how I feel about them so, if something should happen to me, they know how I felt.

Once we die, we take nothing with us, and we leave nothing but memories – whether they be good or bad. With that being said, I suppose my thoughts are kind of poetic (I am a writer after all) but it helps me go to sleep at night knowing that if I don’t wake up, everyone who is important to me knows it.

As we all eventually learn, either through experiences or age, or both, tomorrows are not guaranteed and life can be taken away sometimes very quickly and harshly.
